2016 Recap!

Hey, 2016! Thank you! Another year filled with adventures, choices, decisions, mistakes and victories.
You came and went in an instant. Made the world grasp to the fact that you are now gone and a new year is here. The only trail you left were the memories, experiences, mistakes and successes that we acquire and will be carrying throughout our lifetime. How crazy is that tho! 365 days, 8760 hours, gone. The best part about it? We have absolute control on what we fill each of those hours.

But with all these events and realisations, 2016 thought me four main lessons.

  1. Knowledge

One of the most important lessons I learnt this year, is the value of knowledge. We live in a society where information is accessible in an instant; information is received in a rapid and overwhelming state, where the number of likes determines the credibility of an article, where knowledge is trivial, and fame is paramount. This awareness allowed me to remain conscious and diligent on things I read or learn. This realisation gave me the hunger to continuously learn and expand what I know (this may not show as my troll persona tend to triumph over my serious side). It is one of the best investment I made, a perpetual investment. To remain ideal and complacent is a road to and end

Book Recommendation: Influence by Robert Cialdini/ Demon Haunted World by Carl Sagan/ 1984 by George Orwell

  1. Death

Death is inevitable (along with time and tax), we all know it will come someday, so I supposed there is no point for me to stress on that point. Rather, I’d like to mention one other benefit of acknowledging this fact; it allows you to stay and be realistic. When you priories in a very strict manner, have time or limitation or when you are on edge. Everything becomes clear; you know how to connect the dots, which perspectives to contract or expand. On the other side knowing death will come someday allows us to live freely, carelessly and without restriction makes it possible to live without limitation, without fear and makes it possible to live day by day without distress. Both concepts or ideas are healthy. However, as always the medium is desirable, the balance between the spectrum. But, the important point is that whichever approach you practice, they both give you an advantage; to be present in life.

Book Recommendation: When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi/ The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Mason/ No Longer Human by Osamu Dazai

  1. Responsibility or Embrace

To embrace who you are and take responsibility for everything you do. Take ownership of every decision may the outcome be negative or positive. And accept who you are and who you want to be, we live in a world where conformity is easy, and authenticity is hard.

Book Recommendation: Quiet By Susan Cain/ 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephe R Covey/ The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Mason / No Longer Human by Osamu Dazai

  1. Hearty in Approbation

This last point was possible because of a reminder from a friend. Towards the end of the year, my friend Robert and I were having a recap on how the year went. One of the things he mentioned is that throughout the year he realised how much joy the successes of his friends gave him. And that strummed a chord that I almost forgot, the emotion of being grateful and happy to other people’s success. It is a principle I follow; to give support and love to anyone when I can or where I can and to cherish people success as mine and to uplift them. Jealousness, negativity, bitterness and grudge are human emotions but most of the time, unnecessary. So rather than indulge in those emotions why not just spread the love :).

Book Recommendation: Quiet by Susan Cain/ How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie/ The Course of Love by Allain De Button

That’s a wrap! It was a good year of learning, and I couldn’t be more grateful this year, so I want to say thanks to the world, to my friends and to every single person I met. I wish to know you all better ( FYI, I am not very good with small talks 😦 .)

I hope you all had a good year and took away something from it! Both the bad ones and the good ones. Happy new year everyone! May this be a year of victory! And Hello 2017! I welcome you with arms wide open and a big smile. : )

“Death is the light by which the shadow of all of the life’s meaning is measured. Without death, everything would feel inconsequential, all experience arbitrary, all metrics and values suddenly zero.”

‘The desire for more positive experience is itself a negative experience. And, paradoxically, the acceptance of one’s negative experience is itself a positive experience.”

“Love is essential; gregariousness is optional. Cherish your nearest and dearest. Work with colleagues you like and respect. Scan new acquaintances for those who might fall into the former categories or whose company you enjoy for its own sake. And don’t worry about socialising with everyone else. Relationships make everyone happier, introverts included, but think quality over quantity.
The secret to life is to put yourself in the right lighting. For some it’s a Broadway spotlight; for others, a lamplit deal. Use your natural powers – of persistence, concentration, insight, and sensitivity – to do work you love and work that matters. Solve problems, make art, think deeply.”

“Books changed all that. Books, purchasable at low cost, permit us to interrogate the past with high accuracy; to tap the wisdom of our species; to understand the point of view of others, and just those in power; to contemplate- with the best teachers – the insights, painfully extracted from Nature, of the greatest minds that ever were, drawn from the entire planet and from all of ou history. They allow people long dead to talk inside our heads. Books can accompany us everywhere.Books are patient where we are slow to understand, allow us to go ver the hard parts as many times as we wish, and are never critical to our lapses. Books are key to understanding the world and participating in a democratic society.”

Welcome 2017 (Instagram Update)

• ❤ • Happy New Years everyone! 🎉Apologies for my absence. Life is taking me to a different route right now. The year 2017, marks my last year of University Studies which means intense Uni work while maintaining a part-time job and seeking for opportunities related to my degree. The situation required me to readjust my priorities and hobbies, which concluded in a decision for me to put a halt on photography. I will seldom post, but I will ensure that it is rich and of value, and more inclined to who I am. ( Will try to post more casual and day-to-day stuff too!)  🙏🏽Happy New Years again everyone!! Time is fading away faster than ever, and it will continue to soar. I hope the first few weeks of the year has been enlightening so far. Rekindle, write and pursue your goals, dreams and desires. Love is free, the world is vast. #keeploving #keepexploring #newyearisnotanewyearbutabetteryou #photonotsorelated

Adventure: La Perouse

If you are ever in Sydney and looking for a place to explore La Perouse is the place to go!  La Perouse is a suburb in south-eastern Sydney; it is accessible via bus from the city roughly 30-40 minutes ride or if you are driving there is a designated parking space as well.

There are a lot of activities to do, restaurants to eat and a great place to relax. I went there a couple of months ago just for a stroll and to explore, nothing major as I went at the end of the day.  Nonetheless, I managed to take a lot of photos! So here they are!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

There was plenty of weddings when I was there. It was a beautiful sight and to see newly wed couples just gives the heart a sweet hum. The sunset and the horizon were mesmerising. The waves oh, the sound of waves, and the fresh air!! Cannot wait to visit La Perouse again.

Absolutely a place to visit!!

Oh and if you like burgers I recommend  Bare Grill ; great staffs, amazing fries and burgers!

Happy Wednesday!

Movie: Hawksaw Ridge

Last night I watched the movie “Hawksaw Ridge”

Synopsis: WWII American Army Medic Desmond T. Doss, who served during the Battle of Okinawa, refuses to kill people and becomes the first Conscientious Objector in American history to be awarded the Medal of Honor.

I did not watch the trailer, so I did not know what to expect. My friend told me it was about WW2, specifically about a medic soldier, who went to the battlefield to save lives without killing a single person. I thought it would be cliche, boring and expectable.
But within fifteen minutes, I was hooked. My eyes were glued to the screen, my mind was so fixated and captivated for the whole duration of the movie. It was intense, sad, admirable and inspiring. The movie immersed the audience so profoundly that it felt like I was actually on the scene, fighting and able to emphasise with the characters. It exhibited the horror of wars, the lost lives & soldiers love to their country. I am very connected to my emotion, and to be honest, I nearly cried haha!
The lives that are lost in the wars, the painful screams of help and desperations. The fear to fight, the fear of dying, the fear to loose. How frightening, how depressing. The thought of being in the battlefield, and then suddenly next to you, a friend is dying, crying, uttering that they are afraid. Oh, I can’t imagine, the emotional trauma and sadness one may experience.
Back to the other aspects of the movie, Desmond Doss, the main character was extraordinary and admiring. Desmond’s character was noble, honourable & worthy of praise. What a frightening & remarkable life he lived. His faith and love towards God were something hardly anyone can do and display. The courage, discipline and loved he portrayed and delivered was just inspiring and encouraging. What an amazing man, he deserve every award and praise.
Unquestionably one of the best movies I watched this year, on par with Dr Strange. It was thought provoking, emotionally evoking and heart warming.
I highly recommend the movie! Check it out, while its fresh!
“While everybody is taking life I’m going to be saving it.” – Desmond Doss

Daily Gratitude Post: Day 1/20 Mich

Gratitude:// The quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return the kindness.

Yesterday, I discovered Habitica which is:

Habitica is a video game to help you improve real life habits. It “gamifies” your life by turning all your tasks (habits, dailies, and to-dos) into little monsters you have to conquer. The better you are at this, the more you progress in the game. If you slip up in life, your character starts backsliding in the game.-

The game takes a lot of commitment and honesty. So far I am having fun, being a former MMORPG player, Habitica allows me to integrate productivity and amusement. Gushes of nostalgia every time I go to the website haha! But one of the best thing about the website is their online community, where people can converse, share stories and offer challenges. There I came across this gratitude challenge, where participants are encouraged or asked to post a pic/word/ or journal entry on a daily basis for twenty days. Also, you get experience, coins and of course, the feeling of appreciation which is priceless.

And here I am, this marks my day 1, and I shall name it Mich.

I am grateful for Mich because she was one of the people that I can say that sparked my life. Mich was one of my first few friends when I first arrived in Australia. Bubby, passionate and adorable, that’s a way to describe her.

The biggest influence she had in my life, was that she introduce me to her church and her cousin. Where I met my first spiritual family in Australia and experienced my first love (story for another time). That was six years ago, even though everything had changed now. And I left the old church and ended the young love. I am and will always be grateful to you, the past, the present and the future, it will never change, and I will never forget. We had our ups and downs, dramas and adventure. Nonetheless and whatever happens I am and will always be thankful. Thank you so much, Mich, Love you long time!

I hope you are all doing well! Don’t end a day without being grateful. It is a healthy and soothing feeling to sleep with.

Feel free to come and join me in this challenge. Rules are simple: post something you are grateful for (anything or anyone) daily, for the next 20 days haha! That is it.

Have a great weekend everyone!! And, What are you grateful for?

Adventure: Blue Mountains

Recently, I became aware of that majority of the contents that I have been posting are book related haha! I forgot to share my other passion, hobby and therapeutic activity which is photography.

I love photography; it allows me to capture anything and everything I want. I love to control (in a healthy way haha!), and photography feeds me that desire. I cannot wait for the day where we can wear contact lenses, where we can blink and poof! Moment captured. But then there will be too many ethical and privacy issues accompanied by it. Just wishful thinking, in my small, perfect world.

Anyhow, enough about me. Here are some snaps I took a couple of months back when I went to the beautiful and breathtaking, Blue Mountains of New South Wales Australia. It was my first time visiting the area, so I was jam packed with excitement and joy. We didn’t get to explore the whole area because there was a lot of tracks to do and we were not really prepared for such activity. But nonetheless, I had an amazing mini adventure with my good friend Ivan. I am now familiar with the area and activities to do next time I visit.

Undoubtedly one of the places that you must visit if you go to Australia. If you love nature, adventure and serenity, then the Blue Mountains is the place to go!

Easily access via public transport. Maps and directions are given and visible around the area 🙂

Hope you are all doing well, uni is intense right now. My hunger for wanderlust is growing, don’t forget to feed yours.

P.S I have a giveaway happening right now, info below ! 🙂

This happened : )

• H O M E • After 7 years I finally have the opportunity to go back to my home country. It will be an emotional, fun and exciting trip! I cannot wait to retrace my childhood & explore new places.
Back to the country that thought me to always be grateful, humble and love. 🏡

Hope you are all having a great time! Never forget where you came from. There are always hidden treasures back there.
